My boring Valediction (last for 3 min + )

A very good evening to our guest of honour, Associate Professor Michael Heng, member Beatty Alumni, principal, Mr. Boo Hian Kok, vice-principal, Mrs. Clara Tan and Mrs. Merlinda Goh, guests and fellow beattians. I am lee Xian from 4E1 and I am honoured to be the valedictorian today

Today marks the end of one journey and the beginning of another. In the past 4 or 5 years, what have we really learnt? Is it about the endless mathematics formula, the complicated laws of physics or how to write perfect English essays? Our most important lessons cannot be recited or written down and graded. These lessons involve friendship, hard work, love and dedication.

I believe that everyone still remembers the very first day in Beatty. Just graduated from primary school, we were in a total new environment. We were confused, scared and we did not know what lay ahead of us. Then the teachers came with smiles and put our hearts at ease.
From that day onwards, we grew up together in this wonderful Beatty Family. Beatty is just like our 2nd home, with the principals and teachers as our parents. Whenever we are troubled, our teachers will always be there for us, sharing with us their experiences and guiding us.

The fellow beattians are like our dearest siblings. Our friends give us the reason to drag ourselves out of the bed every morning to go to school, making our days more fulfilling enjoyable. We have experienced sorrows, happiness, failure and success, but we have always been together. I believe that 20 years down the road, we may not remember the grades we achieves but we will remember all memorable moments we have together, especially in major events such as our fund-raising projects ‘Tzeetrospection’ , our drama production, ‘ The New Beginning’ and the ‘Beatty Hulala race that put our school in Singapore record.

All theses would not be possible without the support of our principal, Mr. Boo Hian Kok, vice-principal, Mrs. Clara Tan and Mrs. Merlinda Goh, and all our teachers. Thank you again.

As we sit here today, we should consider the wise words of Aristotle, ‘The roots of education are bitter, but the fruits are sweet. Our secondary school education may be a mountain that we have to climb but our learning journey is endless. There are still mountains waiting for us to climb. It may be difficult but do not be afraid. Do not give up as we have come this far; be confident. It is us that determine where we will be and what we will do for the rest of our lives.

Before I end my speech, I would like to say a very big thank you to all teachers and those who have cared for us. I wish everyone in your futures endeavours and hope that we will keep in touch. Let us help to keep the flag of Beatty flying high.

Yea! Exams are over, and yesterday was the very last day of school and many of us slacked in the classroom, sleeping, chatting and playing. The boys gathered in one group and played 'Truth or Dare". Some of the dares are very lame and funny. Once, Raymond went to sit in front and took out his shoe. Guessed what did he do with his shoes. he actually used it as a phone and talk to it. Ha ha =) Then another funny one was when Yi Herng suddenly went to the front of the class and shouted, " I am hungry!" Though it may not be funny as you read it but if you were there, you will laugh it you roll off the chairs. Well, they did add some lives to our ultra boring math lesson which last for more than 2 hours.

As usual, after night study yesterday, we went to 7-11 to grab a bite. Then suddenly, 2 girls who dressed very 'punkily' enter it and they fill the up with some drinks (Gulp). without paying, they just rushed off. Those girls can afford the latest spectacles in fashion, yet they did not even wish to pay for a drink that only cost about $1.30.

As they were filling their drink , Yiyu and Maye were inside. They were so stunned that they were lost for words. ShuJun and i were outside so we did not know what had happened. According to what they said, they said that the shopkeeper did lift her head up to see so they thought the shopkeeper had seen it. But in then end, she did not know anything till we told her. Haizzzz...

Well, tomorrow is the graduation ceremony and my speech is so damn long.... i am now a panicky, nervous spider...

Hazy days

these few days has been very hazy. It has caused some of us throat and eye problems. The haze is caused by the burning of forest in Indonesia and the wind blow it all here. Currently as I'm typing, the PSI is 150. That's very high.

Yesterday was moon cake festival. That was the lunar calendar, 15th August, which legend has said that the fairy Chang-er fly to the moon palace as she had eaten her husband's immortal pill. As many of us went for night study, we brought along moon cakes, pomelo, tea and candles. After studying, everyone had a great feast and admiring at the elegance of the moon.

After leaving school, we went to nearby blocks and join in the kids for fun. They were having block party and i could not believe that we, 16-year-olds were playing with 5 and 6 years old kids. We also played with the candles forming different pattern and decorated the dolphin statue with candles. In the end after the candles had melted, we had to scrape off the wax with our plastic rulers.

done with cleaning, we went home, As we climbed up the stairs, we felt like we were in heaven because of the haze. the visibility was very poor. Guess we have to suffer from this terrible haze a few more days. Do visit this webbie for more information. http://app.nea.gov.sg/psi/

Night Studies ***

For the past few days, I've not been blogging because I attend the night classes. Time just doesn't seem to be enough. Each day, I wake up at 6 and go to school which ends at 1300. Then after school, I will go home and sleep till about 1730 and have my dinner and off I go to to school again. After I come back, then I go to sleep again till the next morning. This is such a boring cycle that has been happening for the past few days.

During the first day of night study, the response was not very good. There is only yiyu, maye and me and a number of 4T and 5N students. At first, we went to the library but the teacher-in-change stopped us because maye was only wearing her P.E. shorts with no skirts. So she told us to read the rules and regulations. It stated that students are to be in proper attire (eg school tee) with pants/skirts. Left with no choice, we left the library and sat outside council room. I really wonder why girls can't be in their school shorts.

The following day was better, perhaps Mr Amos was around. This time round, other girls with shorts were allowed to go in. I don't know why.

Mr Benjamin Wong seems to be pretty free. Whenever we go for night studies, he will be there. Yesterday, while sitting outside council room, he came up and approached us and started asking his usual questions.

" So you all are from 4E1?"
"Yes."
"Okay. So do you have any questions?"
"Not at the moment as we're doing Amaths now."
"Okay."

Finishing his word, he stand down there and look at both of us, yiyu and me, for no reason and for a very long time. There was silence and we try to curb our laughters as it was so 'cold'. Finally, he left and both of us started laughing non-stop. Haha! He was really quite a weird man.

Graduation day is next Thursday. I am busy preparing my speech and I have to work with Mrs L tan. Hope that my speech is not full of grammar mistakes and it is not out of point. Once the final draft is done, I'll try to publish it ad I guess no one will be listening o me during the graduation night.
